Valuable information is always the scarcest resource in the world and also regarded as the inner agent that may drive the the moving of the whole society. Information helps shape people’s behaviors and choices, as well as people’s thoughts and cognition .
SONG CHAO
1979 ｜ Born in Shandong , China.
1990-2004 ｜ Have been lived and worked in the coal-mine of Shandong as a miner. Began to photography since 2001 , And photographed the series of coal mine-themed works such as Miners ,The Residents of Mining Areas, The Sinking Mining Areas…
2004-2009 ｜Have been studied photography and art at Beijing Film Academy.
2020-Present｜Started to do the new project of Images in the Post-truth Era ;
Now works and lives in NY & BJ as an artist.
Works have been collected by Musée de l’Elysée（Lausanne）, Réattu Museum，Shanghai Art Museum，Shanghai Center of Photography, etc.
Miners
With the develop of the high technology was used in the coal mine, the speed of developing resources of the mine lead to rapid progress. The minerals-the human-the modern industry produce , the three facts appear a very disharmonious station.
Migrant workers
Migrant workers are also a special social group in China. They go to the countryside to work when they are busy, they go to cities to work when they are not busy, Migrant workers, who are both farmers and workers, move silently at the bottom of society.
The elderly left behind
The old people, women and children left behind in the countryside are waiting for a better life in the hope of loneliness.Under the current wave of massive urbanization in China, they have to bear more helpless and resigned.
My Latest Work
It takes the general public a great deal of time and effort to identify and verify the authenticity of the vast amount of mixed information. And they are more likely to choose directly to believe the information that “fits their tastes”. Therefore, the inherent cognition is constantly self-reinforcing, and the “information cocoon” is formed. Meanwhile, the information “directional feeding” based on big data further catalyzes the formation of this consequence…. However, power and capital are often the real invisible control behind all these phenomena. This may be one of the internal causes of the accelerated tearing of the current world consensus.
Unknowingly, we have been plunged into the “post-truth era”…
The overall creation of “Images in the Post-truth Era” is a kind of reflection or warning to the above phenomena.
